Organizers of the Out of the Darkness Keuka Lake Walk will hold a kickoff event July 29 at Lake Life Brewery in Penn Yan. The gathering will run from 5 to 8 Wednesday evening and offer information and registration for individuals and teams planning to participate in the Oct. 4 walk at Keuka Lake State Park.
The kickoff will include live music and complimentary pizza for those who arrive early, according to organizers. The main walk will mark the ninth year of the Keuka Lake event.
Money raised through the walk supports suicide-prevention research, advocacy and education in Penn Yan and communities across New York through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Denise Slocum, a longtime volunteer with the event, said the walk is intended to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented and to support people affected by suicide.
