Farmington driver ticketed after fatal Hopewell crash

A Farmington driver received four traffic tickets Friday following an investigation into a fatal July 11 crash outside the Econo Lodge on state Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Hopewell, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said investigators determined that a pedestrian's failure to yield to traffic caused the crash, while 25-year-old Aaron Shahin was cited for improper plates, operating without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninspected vehicle.

The tickets are allegations and will be answered in Hopewell Town Court. The sheriff's release did not identify the pedestrian or provide additional details about the circumstances of the crash.

The release did not allege that the vehicle registration, insurance, inspection or plate violations caused the collision.
