Auburn police plan to install visible surveillance cameras near Perrine and State streets using state gun-violence prevention funding, according to The Citizen.
Police Chief Matthew Androsko said the intersection has been linked to homicides, fights, shootings and stabbings, making it a priority area for added monitoring.
The department expects to spend about $7,100 on the cameras, which officials said would be intended as an overt deterrent rather than automated license plate readers.
Most of Auburn’s $193,301 GIVE grant will pay for officer overtime, with smaller amounts supporting crime analysis, community programs and required travel.
The City Council unanimously accepted the funding after officials said the program has helped police investigate violent crimes and remove illegal guns from the community.
