Fair Haven has adopted a new law regulating short-term rentals after months of debate over tourism, housing and neighborhood impacts, according to The Citizen.
The village dropped an earlier proposal to cap rentals and use a lottery system, instead limiting each property owner to three permits.
Supporters said the rules could discourage corporations from buying homes while addressing concerns about parking, absentee landlords and pressure on emergency services.
Business owners warned that tighter restrictions could reduce lodging options in a community that depends heavily on summer visitors.
Officials said only six applications have been submitted so far and an advisory committee will continue reviewing how the law affects residents, property owners and businesses.
