Bloomfield first responder Alex Brown remembered for volunteer service

Alexander "Alex" David Brown, a 32-year-old Bloomfield first responder who served several emergency organizations in Ontario County, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 12.

The Canandaigua Emergency Squad remembered Brown as a selfless and dependable volunteer who was always looking for a way to help others, whether during an emergency, behind the scenes or after a difficult call.

Brown was a driver and lieutenant with the Bloomfield Ambulance Squad, a member of the East Bloomfield-Holcomb Fire Department and an auxiliary member of the Canandaigua Emergency Squad. The emergency squad had named him its Member of the Year for outstanding volunteer service.

"Where can I help?" and "What can I do?" were questions Brown regularly asked, the Canandaigua Emergency Squad said in announcing his death. The organization said his compassion, dedication and willingness to serve made both the squad and the community better.

Brown was born Sept. 29, 1993, in Rochester and grew up in Bloomfield. He attended Bloomfield schools and graduated from Bloomfield Central School in 2012.

Outside his emergency service, Brown enjoyed attending NASCAR races with family and friends, hunting and riding his four-wheeler on his grandparents' property. His obituary said he will also be missed by his black Labrador, Tanker.

Brown is survived by his wife, Micaela "Mickey" White, along with his parents, stepparents, brother, grandparents, extended family and friends.

The family will celebrate Brown's life privately. Memorial contributions may be sent to the East Bloomfield-Holcomb Fire Department, PO Box 246, East Bloomfield, NY 14443, or the Canandaigua Emergency Squad, 233 North Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY 14424.

Arrangements are being handled by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home in Bloomfield, where condolences may be offered.
