Steuben man taken into custody after struggle with police

A Cameron man was charged after Bath police said he refused to identify himself during a traffic stop and fought with an officer.

The Village of Bath Police Department said an officer stopped a vehicle around 4:24 p.m. June 27 on West Morris Street after observing multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

Police said the driver refused to identify himself and refused lawful commands to exit the vehicle. After the officer said the man would be detained, police said he began fighting with the officer and rolled the officer's arm up inside the window, leading to a taser deployment.

Other officers arrived and the man was taken into custody, police said. He was identified as Cody J. Blanchard of Cameron.

Blanchard was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and other vehicle and traffic violations, according to police.

He was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to Bath Village Court at a later date.
