Saunders Finger Lakes Museum Executive Director Natalie Payne has received a 2026 Women of Distinction Award from Professional Women of the Finger Lakes. Payne was honored in the Professional Achievement category for leadership, regional impact and her work preserving Finger Lakes stories.
Payne was recognized June 30 during the organization's Women of Distinction Awards and Scholarship Dinner.
Payne has worked with the Branchport museum for more than 15 years and has helped shape its growth since its founding in 2008, according to the release.
As executive director, Payne has advanced the museum's mission to build appreciation for the cultures and ecology of the Finger Lakes region. The museum connects visitors with local natural and cultural heritage through educational programs, outdoor exploration and place-based storytelling.
The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum's 30-acre campus includes restored wetlands, a community paddle launch and family nature play areas. The museum is also working toward completion of its main exhibit building as part of a long-term vision to become a year-round cultural and environmental anchor for the region.
Payne holds a master's degree in nonprofit leadership from Keuka College and a bachelor's degree in history from St. John Fisher College. Before joining the museum, she worked at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion.
The Women of Distinction Awards recognize women who strengthen the community through leadership, service and dedication. This year's event recognized 15 nominees and awarded $12,000 in scholarships to eight women graduating from Ontario County high schools and pursuing higher education.
