A July 12 trail run at Watkins Glen International will raise money for a new wellness center serving first responders, according to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
The "Beyond the Call, Saving Lives through Wellness" event is being hosted by Schuyler County and will benefit the Sheriff Ron Spike First Responder Wellness Center at Keuka Lake.
The fundraiser is connected to the New York State Sheriff's Institute Wellness Center. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office highlighted the event in its July newsletter, saying registration is open and families are encouraged to attend.
The event includes a 3-mile race that may be run individually or as a three-person relay team. Participants must be at least 13 years old to compete in the 3-mile race.
A 1.5-mile race will also be offered for individual runners. Participants must be at least 6 years old for that race.
The Sheriff's Office said proceeds will help improve the lives of people who serve and protect communities across New York.
The July newsletter also noted that first responders from several counties recently attended HEROES Week training at Keuka College, where participants learned peer support skills, coping skills and officer resiliency training.
