Sheriff gives update on fatal Dryden fire

Tompkins County sheriff's officials have identified the two people who died in a July 3 house fire in the town of Dryden.

Kayla Wood, 37, and Dennis Davis, 47, were found dead after emergency crews responded around 12:21 a.m. to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Lake Road, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies, Dryden firefighters and Dryden Ambulance crews found one victim dead at the scene. A second victim was discovered inside the residence a short time later, officials said.

The sheriff's office said two pet dogs also died in the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. The sheriff's office said it is working with Dryden firefighters, mutual aid fire departments, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and other assisting agencies.

Officials extended condolences to the victims' families and others affected by the fire.
