Lamborghini Reveals Urus SE Performante Hybrid SUV With Major Performance Upgrades

Lamborghini has unveiled the new Urus SE Performante, the fastest and most powerful Urus SUV Lamborghini has ever made. This new model combines the brand’s signature V8 engine with plug-in hybrid technology for additional power, faster acceleration and improved driving capability. The SUV also gets a new powertrain, lighter materials, improved aerodynamics, a new suspension setup and a dedicated driving mode. The updates are meant to improve on-road dynamics and high-speed stability without sacrificing the luxury and practicality the Urus is known for.

What Makes the New Urus SE Performante So Powerful?

The Urus SE Performante’s highlight is its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. It’s a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 combined with a permanent magnet electric motor. The two systems combine for 801hp and 1,000Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Urus ever launched. In unison, they provide the instant electrical response and the grunt of the twin-turbo V8.

How Fast Is the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante?

The new model is a new benchmark in performance. The Urus SE Performante will accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. It is also capable of a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph) making it one of the fastest luxury performance SUVs on the planet. Lamborghini has designed the hybrid system to deliver power smoothly, accelerate quickly and perform thrillingly in any situation.

How Has Lamborghini Reduced Weight in the New SUV?

Lamborghini has worked on the Urus SE Performante to make it lighter, but not any softer. Much of the SUV is wrapped in carbon fibre, including the new hood, front and rear bumpers and wheel arches. The SUV is 32 kg lighter than a normal Urus SE due to these light materials. Less weight = better acceleration, braking, handling and overall efficiency of driving.

What Aerodynamic Improvements Have Been Added?

The new Urus SE Performante also benefits from a whole raft of reworked aero elements to improve stability at high speeds. It features a roof-mounted rear wing and the largest rear diffuser ever to be fitted to a Urus. The upgrades result in a 23 percent downforce improvement over the old Urus Performante. That additional downforce means the car sticks better, turns better and is more stable when you push it hard.

Which New Driving Features Improve Handling and Sound?

Lamborghini also debuts a new dual chamber air suspension system for improved ride quality and handling. The wider track of the SUV improves lateral stability in tight bends. A new Rally drive mode for loose surfaces like gravel and dirt has been introduced to improve driver confidence off pavement. The Urus SE Performante is fitted with a lightweight titanium Akrapovic exhaust as standard. The exhaust system sheds 10kg from the weight, and delivers a deeper, more aggressive performance sound.
