Sabres trade goaltender Devon Levi to Oilers

The Buffalo Sabres traded goaltender Devon Levi and a 2028 seventh-round pick to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday in exchange for a 2028 third-round selection.

The move ends Levi’s four-year tenure in the organization after the 24-year-old spent parts of three seasons with Buffalo while serving primarily as the starting goaltender for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League.

Levi appeared in 52 games for Rochester last season, posting a 23-20-9 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. He also started three Calder Cup Playoff games, recording a .919 save percentage despite Rochester’s first-round exit. His most recent NHL appearance came on January 20, 2025. Across 39 career games with the Sabres, Levi compiled a 17-17-2 record with a 3.29 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage.

Buffalo acquired Levi from the Florida Panthers in July 2021 as part of the trade that sent Sam Reinhart to Florida after the goaltender had been selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Before turning professional, Levi starred at Northeastern, becoming the first goalie to win the Mike Richter Award as the nation’s top collegiate netminder in consecutive seasons.

The Sabres add a higher draft pick in the deal, while the Oilers take a chance on a young goaltender looking for a fresh opportunity.
