That means pleasant temperatures during the day and calm conditions overnight, which should make for a nice day all in all for outdoor celebrations, fireworks displays, and family gatherings — one of the nicer Independence Day forecasts we’ve seen in recent years.

The latest Las Vegas weather update says temperatures will remain below seasonal averages through the July 4 holiday, then gradually warm during the weekend. Weak high pressure over the Southwest is helping to keep cooler air in place to maintain daytime highs in the upper 90s, rather than rising into the triple digits. Skies will be largely bright with dry conditions, with low winds helping to keep conditions suitable for outdoor events. The high-pressure system will intensify across the region early next week and bring back the highest temperatures, forecasters warn.
Cooler Temperatures in Store Through Independence Day
Highs in the Las Vegas area Thursday and Friday will be about 98 to 99 degrees, a few degrees below the normal early July average. Morning temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s, with warming under sunny skies in the afternoon.
The pattern will be cooler, but the desert sun will still be hot. As you head to a parade, barbecue, or outdoor festival, keep up your heat safety practices by drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight clothing, and applying sunscreen throughout the day.
The warm weather with temperatures falling into the 80s after sunset could help pave the way for a good evening fireworks show.
Sunny Skies to Dominate Holiday Weekend
Dry weather could persist through the holiday weekend with almost no possibility of rain across the Las Vegas Valley. Forecasts are for plenty of sunlight each day, excellent visibility, and steady weather for travel and outdoor activity.
Winds are anticipated to stay light enough that concerns about blown dust or weather disruptions should be kept at bay. Afternoon isolated breezes may occur but are not predicted to significantly hamper holiday activities.
This forecast is especially good for both locals and tourists visiting Las Vegas during the busy holiday period because of the combination of sunshine, low humidity, and cooler-than-normal temperatures.
When temperatures are forecast to peak
Cooler weather isn’t going to last forever. Forecast models show temperatures will begin to rise Saturday, reaching a high early next week.
Highs should rebound to around 101 by Sunday, with temperatures soaring further into the 103- to 105-degree range Monday and Tuesday as a stronger ridge of high pressure spreads across the Southwest.
While these values are more in line with early July, they are a far cry from the comfy holiday forecast. After the weekend, residents should expect more normal desert heat.
Even with a cooler forecast, heat safety still matters.
Temperatures are forecast to remain below average through Independence Day, but any prolonged outdoor activity can still lead to heat-related illness. Health experts are urging people to drink plenty of water, get breaks in the shade or air-conditioned buildings, and avoid vigorous activities during the hottest part of the day.
Also, pet owners should be aware that pavement temperatures can be much hotter than the air and can potentially burn the paws of animals. Visitors unacquainted with desert conditions should plan accordingly, especially if trekking or spending extended periods outside.
