Mets fire Carlos Mendoza following dreadful start to 2026 season

The New York Mets announced this morning that they have fired manager Carlos Mendoza. The 2026 season has been anything but a success so far for the Mets. With a record of 34-47, they find themselves at the bottom of the barrel in the NL East standings, 9.5 games behind first place. They are currently in the middle of a six-game losing streak.

Mendoza was hired as the Mets’ manager before the 2024 season and will exit with an overall record of 206-198. He was at the helm of the team last year when they made the NLCS. Replacing Mendoza will be Andy Green. Green will have the interim tag and will hold the position for the remainder of the season. Green joined the Mets in 2023 on the player development side and has managerial experience. Green skippered the San Diego Padres from 2016 until 2019, with a record of 274-366. Green played in parts of four big league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2004 to 2006 and played four games for the Mets in 2009.
