Three Seneca County high school juniors have been selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State program at SUNY Brockport.
Olivia Haws of Romulus Central School and Brooklyn Ovenshire and Kayleigh Banfield of South Seneca Central School will attend the program from June 30 to July 6.
The weeklong nonpartisan program teaches students about county and state government processes through hands-on civic learning. Delegates, known as citizens, organize into mock political parties, campaign, hold rallies, debate and elect city, county and state officials.
Students who are elected are sworn in and perform the duties of their offices. Other delegates receive appointments and visit elected officials to share their viewpoints.

The students were selected based on scholastic standing, school involvement and community activities, according to the American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York.
Kayleigh is sponsored by Kirk-Casey ALA Unit 366 in Seneca Falls. Brooklyn is sponsored by Manning-Lilla ALA Unit 463 in Ovid. Olivia is sponsored by Warner-VanRiper ALA Unit 435 in Waterloo.
The American Legion Auxiliary is a volunteer organization serving veterans, military members and their families.
