The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs will have to wait an extra day to begin their series after Monday’s matchup at Citi Field was postponed because of rain.
The game will be made up as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Wednesday, with the first game scheduled for a 1:10 p.m. start.
The weather-related change also reshuffles New York’s pitching plans. Kodai Senga, who had been lined up to face Chicago left-hander Shota Imanaga, is now expected to take the mound Tuesday against Cubs right-hander Edward Cabrera, who enters with a 4-4 record and 5.21 ERA.
For Wednesday’s twin bill, the Mets are slated to start Nolan McLean and Sean Manaea, while the Cubs will counter with Imanaga and Javier Assad. The order of those starters has not yet been announced.
New York enters the series at 34-43 after dropping back-to-back series against the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies. Chicago, meanwhile, has won six of its last nine games and sits at 40-37.
The Mets could also receive a boost later this week with Francisco Lindor nearing a return from a calf strain. The star shortstop is scheduled to play another rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the club will reevaluate Lindor following that appearance, leaving open the possibility that he could rejoin the major league roster during the series.
