Nearly 18 months after their previous agreement expired, Tompkins County Public Library workers finally have a new union contract, according to The Ithaca Voice. Library support staff unanimously approved the deal, bringing all union employees under current labor agreements for the first time since 2024.
The contract includes wage increases tied to workers’ responsibilities and skills, along with protections related to artificial intelligence. Employees will have input on the library’s AI audits and access to training if technology changes their job duties.
Negotiations began in early 2025 and stretched through leadership turnover at the library. The library board is expected to give final approval June 23, with the agreement taking effect retroactively and remaining in place through the end of 2027.
