Genoa, Ledyard voters face major decision on $33M sewer project

Genoa, Ledyard voters face major decision on M sewer project

A $33 million sewer project that could reshape parts of Cayuga Lake’s shoreline now hinges on a public vote, according to The Citizen. Residents in portions of Genoa and Ledyard will decide Tuesday whether to create a new sewer district and move forward with plans for nine miles of new sewer line.

The proposal has sparked sharp debate. Supporters argue the project will protect water quality and strengthen property values, while critics question the cost, engineering challenges, and whether existing septic systems pose enough of a threat to justify the investment.

Eligible voters within the proposed district can cast ballots from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Genoa and Ledyard town halls. Property owners in the district would pay an estimated $1,990 per year if the sewer district is approved.
