Williamson woman charged in SNAP benefits fraud investigation

A Williamson woman is facing felony charges after authorities say she failed to report household income while receiving public assistance benefits through Wayne County.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said Amy Francis, 60, of Arrowbend Drive was arrested following a joint investigation by the Wayne County Department of Social Services and the Sheriff’s Office into alleged welfare fraud in the Town of Lyons.

According to investigators, Francis did not report income earned by her husband while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Authorities allege the omission allowed her to receive more than $2,000 in benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Francis was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.

She was processed at the Wayne County Jail and released with an appearance ticket directing her to appear in Lyons Town Court on July 8.
