One of Yates County’s longest-running community markets will celebrate a major milestone this weekend as the Penn Yan Farmers’ Market opens its 50th season in a new location.
The Yates County Cooperative Farm and Craft Market, commonly known as the Penn Yan Farmers’ Market, will open Saturday, June 20, at the Yates County Office Building parking lot at 417 Liberty St. Organizers say the move returns the market to a location it occupied during the 1990s and will provide improved visibility, additional space and easier parking for customers.
The market will operate Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., slightly later than in previous years. Visitors will be able to access the site from either Main Street through the county parking lots near the library or from Liberty Street through the main entrance to the County Office Building.
Market organizers say opening day will feature a variety of local products, including early-season produce, locally raised meats, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, textiles and exhibits from area nonprofit organizations. Additional vendors are expected to join throughout the growing season.
The market operates as a producer-only market, meaning all products sold must be grown or made in Yates County or an adjacent county. Organizers say the focus on local vendors and locally produced goods has helped sustain the market for five decades.
Founded in 1976, the market is the oldest of its kind in Yates County and has operated at several locations throughout Penn Yan over the years. Organizers credit its longevity to a combination of quality products and strong community support.
Market officials also continue to seek additional vendors for the 2026 season and say the expanded location offers more opportunities for participation.
