The New York Yankees continued their offensive surge and strengthened their grip on first place in the American League East with a 10-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. New York improved to 45-27 with its fourth straight win and secured the series behind a 13-hit attack, while Chicago fell to 38-34.
The Yankees wasted little time getting started. Cody Bellinger launched a two-run homer in the first inning after Amed Rosario doubled, giving Carlos Rodón an early cushion. New York added two more runs in the second when Anthony Volpe ripped an RBI triple and Ali Sánchez followed with a run-scoring single.
Chicago briefly made things interesting in the third. After Rodón worked around early trouble, Colson Montgomery connected on a three-run homer to cut the Yankees’ lead to 4-3. The left-hander responded by finishing five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
The game turned decisively in the fifth. Jasson Domínguez doubled to spark a rally before José Caballero delivered a two-run single. After Volpe reached on a fielder’s choice, Sánchez singled and Paul Goldschmidt crushed a three-run homer to right field, capping a five-run inning that pushed the lead to 9-3.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a solo homer in the seventh as the Yankees reached double figures in runs for the second consecutive game. Bellinger finished 3-for-4 with a homer, double, walk and two RBI, while Caballero and Sánchez each drove in two runs.
The Yankees will look to complete a three-game sweep on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Ryan Weathers (2-5, 4.36 ERA) is expected to start for New York against Sean Burke (3-4, 4.15 ERA) for Chicago.
