Nearly 200 years of history are getting a fresh look inside Wayne County’s courthouse, according to the Times of Wayne County. Workers have begun a major restoration project that will strip away aging finishes and revive the building’s original woodwork throughout key public areas.
A local restoration company started work June 1 and is refinishing ornate staircases, paneling, doors, and hardware. The project will restore the courthouse’s original golden oak appearance while preserving historic details that date back to the building’s 1854 reconstruction.
Crews expect to finish the work by August. The restoration uses modern dust- and odor-free technology designed to minimize disruption inside one of Wayne County’s most recognizable landmarks.
