A 57-year-old Lansing man was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital with serious injuries Friday after the motorized bicycle he was operating crashed into a storage shed being unloaded along North Triphammer Road.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 5 p.m. to the 2900 block of North Triphammer Road in the Town of Lansing for a reported bicycle crash. The incident prompted a Tompkins SIREN alert advising motorists to avoid the area between Asbury Road and Peruville Road.
Investigators said emergency responders determined that a motorized bicycle had collided with a storage shed that was being unloaded for delivery along the roadway.
The bicycle operator, identified as Brian K. Babcock, 57, of Lansing, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Due to the severity of those injuries, the call was upgraded to a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Babcock was transported from the scene by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment.
The Lansing Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance assisted at the scene. Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash was not immediately available.
