With Lake Ontario water levels expected to remain stable through the summer and a slate of community events on the horizon, Sodus Point officials say the village is entering the season focused on maintenance, improvements and visitor activity.
Mayor Pat Nolan outlined a range of ongoing projects and seasonal updates in his June community bulletin, highlighting work completed by the Department of Public Works and preparations underway throughout the village.
According to Nolan, public works crews recently completed water meter readings and paving at the Willow Park parking lot. Crews are also handling roadside shoulder cleanup, maintaining REDI project gardens, installing Hometown Hero banners and flower baskets, conducting brush pickup and performing routine mowing and weed trimming. Officials reminded residents that brush should not be placed curbside more than 48 hours before scheduled pickup dates.
Village Hall staff are processing tax payments and preparing annual water and sewer bills. Property tax payments are due June 30 without penalty, while water and sewer bills are expected to be mailed by July 1 and will be due July 31.
Village planning and zoning officials are scheduled to hold a joint workshop June 15 with the village attorney to review local law amendments. The meeting is intended to ensure board members are satisfied with proposed changes before moving forward.
Nolan also provided an update on Lake Ontario water levels, reporting the current level at 247.31 feet. Long-range forecasts from federal officials project water levels will remain favorable through the summer, with levels expected to be around 246.5 feet by Labor Day weekend.
Summer programming is also ramping up across the village. Free Music Tuesday concerts hosted by the North Area Preservation Society will return to the ballfield, while the Lighthouse concert series is also scheduled to resume. Additional events planned this summer include the NASP Kiddie Parade and annual fireworks celebration on July 3, the Lighthouse 5K Run on July 4, and the Sunshine Auto Parade on Sept. 5.
Nolan said the village continues to focus on keeping Sodus Point safe, clean and welcoming for residents and visitors throughout the busy summer season.
