Auburn firefighter retires after more than two decades of service

After more than 22 years of responding to emergencies across Auburn, Firefighter Jeffrey Salvage is beginning retirement and closing the chapter on a career that spanned multiple fire companies, generations of firefighters and thousands of calls for service.

The Auburn Fire Department recognized Salvage this week as he completed his final overnight shift. He was hired on March 31, 2004, and spent his career serving throughout the department before joining A Platoon Engine Company 3 on May 26, 2012, where he remained for the majority of his service.

Department officials said Salvage earned the respect of firefighters across every platoon and station while building lasting friendships throughout his career.

Beyond emergency response duties, Salvage played a significant role in promoting firefighter health and wellness. As a certified Peer Fitness Trainer, he helped advance physical fitness efforts within the department and was instrumental in leading the fitness program for the Auburn Fire Department’s 2014 recruit class.

Colleagues also recognized him for interests outside the firehouse. In his free time, Salvage performs with the local band No Filter, combining a passion for music with his commitment to public service.

Department officials said Salvage made a lasting impact both on emergency scenes and within the department, where fellow firefighters came to rely on him for mentorship, support and camaraderie.

As he retires, the department thanked Salvage for his dedication to the Auburn community and wished him good health and happiness in the years ahead.
