Auburn man charged with felony DWI in Tyre

A report of an allegedly intoxicated driver led to multiple charges, including a felony offense, after a traffic stop in Seneca County earlier this week.

Simon J. Fricano, 44, of Auburn, was arrested around 1:54 a.m. June 8 after sheriff’s deputies located a pickup truck in the Town of Tyre that had been reported by a third party as being operated by an intoxicated driver.

According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed the vehicle speeding and determined it was being operated without insurance before conducting a traffic stop.

Deputies administered field sobriety tests, which resulted in Fricano’s arrest. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and several traffic violations.

Authorities said the felony charge stems from Fricano allegedly driving with a suspended license connected to previous DWI-related matters.

Fricano was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Tyre Town Court on July 8 to answer the charges.
