Woman sentenced after assaulting state trooper in Canandaigua

A woman who admitted to injuring a New York State Trooper during a domestic incident response in Canandaigua has been sentenced to jail time and probation.

Leslie A. Dimaya was sentenced Tuesday in Ontario County Court after pleading guilty to second-degree assault, a Class D violent felony.

The charge stems from a Jan. 13 incident in the Town of Canandaigua. According to the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, state troopers were responding to a domestic incident when Dimaya intentionally caused physical injury to a trooper who was performing a lawful duty.

Ontario County Court Judge Stefanie Barnes sentenced Dimaya to shock probation, which includes six months of incarceration followed by five years of probation supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Paul Irving prosecuted the case.

District Attorney Jason MacBride said assaults on law enforcement officers are serious offenses and noted that officers routinely place themselves in dangerous situations while responding to calls for service.

He said the conviction and sentence reflect the seriousness of assaulting a police officer who is carrying out a lawful duty. The district attorney’s office also thanked law enforcement personnel who respond to domestic incidents and other dangerous situations throughout the community.
