The sounds of bagpipes, drums and traditional Celtic music will once again echo across the grounds of Genesee Country Village & Museum this weekend as the annual Celtic Faire returns for two days of culture, competition and family-friendly activities.
The event will take place Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mumford museum.
Organizers say visitors can expect a mix of music, dance, history and hands-on activities celebrating Celtic traditions from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and beyond.
One of the event’s biggest attractions is the Buffalo Heavies, who will demonstrate feats of strength inspired by traditional Highland Games competitions. Guests can also enjoy live musical performances, dance demonstrations and a variety of historic lawn and tabletop games, including croquet, quoits and Irish rings.
Representatives from several clans will be available throughout the weekend to discuss genealogy, tartan history and family heritage. Visitors can also explore Celtic wheat weaving, a traditional folk art that transforms stalks of wheat into decorative designs.
The John L. Wehle Gallery will host Livingston County Historian Holly Watson, who will present the story of Sara Jane McBride, a Caledonia resident known for her work as a pioneering entomologist and fly tyer.
Activities for younger visitors are planned both days. KatFish Mermaid will greet guests Saturday and offer a tail try-on experience, while Sunday’s schedule includes fairy-themed crafts, stories and activities led by museum naturalists.
Food vendors and specialty merchants will also be on site, offering Celtic-inspired foods, handcrafted jewelry, textiles and other goods.
