Sheriff: Eastview Mall bomb threat remains under investigation

A bomb threat reported Monday evening prompted the evacuation of Eastview Mall and drew a large response from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

The threat was ultimately determined to be unfounded after authorities conducted a thorough search of the property.

Deputies were dispatched to the Victor shopping center shortly after 6 p.m. after the Ontario County 911 Center received what officials described as a third-party bomb threat claiming multiple bombs were located on the property.

Businesses surrounding the mall were notified and evacuated as a precaution while law enforcement secured the area.

The sheriff’s office said numerous agencies responded, including K-9 units from Ontario County, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Transportation Security Administration. Working alongside Eastview Mall security personnel, responding agencies systematically searched both the interior and exterior of the property.

Authorities reported no explosives were found during the search, and fire and EMS personnel who had been staged at the scene were ultimately not needed.

The source of the threat remains under investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
