Newark woman charged after deputies find child walking in roadway

A Wayne County woman faces a child endangerment charge after deputies say they found a young child walking into a roadway while unsupervised during an investigation in Newark.

Michelle Travers, 39, of East Maple Avenue, was arrested after deputies discovered her 5-year-old autistic son walking into the roadway and attempted to locate the child’s parents, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies reported finding the home’s back door open and Travers asleep at the kitchen table while she was the only adult present with two of her three children in her care.
