Wallington Fire Department to celebrate new building with Aug. 1 open house

The Wallington Fire Department will open the doors to its new fire station this summer, inviting the public to celebrate a milestone more than a century in the making.

The department’s building dedication and public open house is scheduled for Aug. 1 at its facility at 7863 Ridge Road. Organizers say the event will honor the department’s history while showcasing its new home and future plans.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. and is expected to feature remarks from state Sen. Pam Helming and Assemblyman Brian Manktelow. The department, founded in 1915, serves the Wallington community in Wayne County.

Food will be available throughout the event, including a chicken barbecue prepared by the Alton Fire Department. Dinners will be sold for $15, while half-chicken meals will be available for $8.

Live entertainment will be provided by Best Friends Musique, and a cash bar will be available. Organizers said the event will be held rain or shine and is open to the public.
