Man stabbed at Ithaca homeless encampment, police say

A man was hospitalized Saturday evening after a stabbing at a homeless encampment in Ithaca, according to city police.

Officers responded around 7:10 p.m. to The Jungle at 1 Southwest Park Road for a reported stabbing and found a victim suffering from stab wounds to the abdomen. Police said officers provided first aid before the victim was transported to a regional trauma center. The victim was reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and had not been located as of Saturday night. Investigators said they believe the suspect and victim knew each other and that the incident was not a random act of violence.
