Inmate charged after deputies find controlled substance in Ontario County Jail cell

A Honeoye man already being held at the Ontario County Jail is facing new charges after deputies said they found a controlled substance inside his cell.

Shannon David Masterson, 44, was taken into custody Friday at the jail in Hopewell and charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the charges stem from an investigation that found Masterson in possession of a controlled substance while he was being held on unrelated charges. Authorities did not identify the substance involved.

Masterson was arraigned through the centralized arraignment process and remanded back to the Ontario County Jail pending further court proceedings.
