More than 2,500 students across five counties have participated in the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office’s “Emilee’s Challenge” program this year, a milestone Sheriff Jim Allard highlighted in the agency’s June newsletter as part of a broader update on public safety initiatives and community outreach efforts.
The program, presented by Dispatcher Kim Clark, has appeared in more than 25 school districts throughout Steuben, Chemung, Allegany, Ontario and Monroe counties. The educational trailer has also been featured at statewide traffic safety conferences and national events, with officials describing its message as impactful for young drivers and students.
The newsletter also highlighted several employee achievements, including the retirement of Corrections Officer Kevin Faucett, who returned in a part-time role to assist with courthouse security. Numerous deputies, corrections officers and supervisors completed specialized training programs covering emergency response, suicide prevention, forensic investigations, procedural justice and incarcerated education.
Sheriff’s Office personnel also participated in career days at schools across the region, with K-9 teams and deputies meeting students in Corning-Painted Post, Addison and Prattsburgh. The agency reported receiving multiple public commendations for employee performance during the past month.
The Sheriff’s Office is also promoting a July 12 trail run at Watkins Glen International that will benefit the new Sheriff Ron Spike First Responder Wellness Center at Keuka Lake. The event, hosted by Schuyler County, is intended to support the health and wellness of law enforcement officers and first responders throughout New York.
