New York communities can apply for nearly $20 million in state funding to support waterfront revitalization, brownfield redevelopment and local planning initiatives through the 2026 Regional Economic Development Council process.
The Department of State announced the funding opportunity Thursday, making grants available through three programs: the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, Brownfield Opportunity Area Program and Smart Growth Community Planning Program. Applications are due through the state’s Consolidated Funding Application by 4 p.m. on July 31.
The largest share of funding, nearly $14 million, will support waterfront revitalization and watershed planning efforts. Another $4.8 million is available for comprehensive planning, zoning updates and smart growth initiatives, while $2 million will support planning and redevelopment efforts for brownfield sites.
State officials said the programs are intended to help communities create more resilient, accessible and economically vibrant neighborhoods while encouraging housing development, downtown revitalization, environmental improvements and infrastructure investment. The funding is part of New York’s Regional Economic Development Council initiative and is supported through the state’s Environmental Protection Fund.
