A Penn Yan woman was arrested on felony driving while intoxicated charges after police received reports of a vehicle being driven erratically through the village.
Betty L. Woodside, 72, of Penn Yan, was taken into custody after officers located the vehicle and observed multiple traffic violations. According to the Penn Yan Police Department, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued until reaching its destination before pulling over.
Police said Woodside displayed several signs of intoxication during the traffic stop but refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was transported to the Yates County Jail, where she also refused a chemical breath test.
A records check showed Woodside’s New York driving privileges had been revoked for failing to complete a state drinking driver program and because of a previous DWI conviction in 2023. As a result, she was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, along with traffic violations including failure to keep right, failing to comply with a lawful order, failing to stop at a stop sign, insufficient turn signal and moving from a lane unsafely.
Woodside was processed and transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.
