Missing Rochester woman buried in Yates County; death ruled homicide

A Rochester woman reported missing by her family in early May was found buried on a property in Yates County, and investigators have now ruled her death a homicide.

Majesty Montgomery, 29, was reported missing to the Rochester Police Department on May 7 after relatives said they had not heard from her in more than 24 hours. Investigators said interviews with family members quickly raised concerns that Montgomery may have been the victim of a crime.

According to Rochester police, the investigation led homicide detectives to a parcel of land in Yates County, where Montgomery’s body was discovered buried several feet underground. Detectives said they identified an area of the property that appeared suspicious and uncovered her remains during a search.

Investigators believe Montgomery was killed at a residence on Austin Street in Rochester before her body was transported to Yates County and buried. Police have not released the cause of death and have not announced any arrests.

The homicide investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact 911, the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at 585-428-7157, Crime Stoppers at 585-423-9300, or email majorcrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
