Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers could soon lose access to low-cost health insurance, according to News10NBC. Changes to the state’s Essential Plan will make people earning more than $31,920 annually ineligible for coverage after June 30.
The shift affects residents who earn too much for Medicaid but often struggle to afford private insurance. Small business owners told News10NBC that marketplace premiums have surged, with some facing monthly costs that are several times higher than what they previously paid.
State officials estimate more than 450,000 people will be impacted by the eligibility change. Those losing coverage have until June 15 to enroll in a new health plan that takes effect July 1.
