Eleven employees lost their jobs this week as Alfred University continues grappling with financial and enrollment pressures, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. University officials said the workforce reduction affected positions across multiple departments and programs.
The university said it notified affected employees privately and is offering support that includes job placement assistance, counseling resources, and opportunities to apply for other campus openings. Officials described the cuts as part of an effort to align expenses with revenues and protect the institution’s long-term stability.
The layoffs come alongside a transition in campus dining services. Alfred recently partnered with Sodexo, which hired nearly 90% of the 45 workers affected when the university’s previous dining contract expired.
