Activists bag Flock cameras during protest in Ithaca

Protesters covered several surveillance cameras with black plastic bags in downtown Ithaca, according to The Ithaca Voice, demanding faster removal of technology local officials already voted to eliminate.

Members of the group Flock Off Ithaca targeted at least five Flock Safety cameras during a demonstration Saturday. Activists say they became frustrated after cameras remained in place months after both the city and Tompkins County voted to end contracts with the company.

County officials said their cameras were deactivated May 28 and are expected to be removed this week, while city officials said Ithaca’s devices have been disconnected and are awaiting removal by the company. Protest organizers say they’ll continue pressing for clearer timelines and greater transparency as the equipment remains visible on city streets.
