A Wayne County father and son who pulled an elderly priest from a burning vehicle received recognition this week for their life-saving actions, according to 13WHAM-TV.
Timothy and Howard Cain rushed from their home on Walworth-Marion Road after hearing a crash in April 2025. Authorities said an 85-year-old priest’s vehicle rolled several times, landed in a ditch, and caught fire. The pair grabbed fire extinguishers, broke a window, and helped rescue him from the wreckage.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office honored the two men during its annual awards ceremony in Newark. Sheriff Robert Milby said the priest, who was traveling to serve the migrant community in Marion, considers the Cains his “guardian angels.”
