Montour Falls man charged after two overnight burglaries

New York State Police arrested a Montour Falls man Tuesday following an investigation into two burglaries reported in the village during the early morning hours.

State police said 27-year-old Bradly Smith was identified as the suspect after troopers responded around 2:35 a.m. May 26 to a reported burglary on Canal Street in Montour Falls. Authorities said the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Troopers from SP Montour Falls, assisted by a K9 unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Forensic Identification Unit, and an unmanned aircraft system team, searched the area while investigators reviewed surveillance footage and conducted interviews.

During the investigation, police determined a second burglary had also occurred at another property in the village.

Smith was later located and interviewed by investigators before being charged with second-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony, second-degree burglary, and petit larceny.

He was transported to the Schuyler County Jail for CAP arraignment.

State police said the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
