A 46-year-old Odessa man has been charged following an investigation into the theft of more than $4,000 from a Horseheads resident’s bank account, according to the New York State Police.

Investigators said Jeffrey L. Riker was arrested after troopers responded April 21 to a home on Level Acres Drive in the Town of Horseheads for a fraud complaint involving unauthorized bank transactions.

Police said the victim discovered $4,319 had been withdrawn from her Chemung Canal Bank account between February and April through unauthorized transactions.

According to investigators, the transactions were traced to a Cash App account associated with Riker.

The victim told police that Riker had previously been at her residence alongside a former home health aide, but she said she never gave him permission to access or use her financial accounts.

State police said investigators obtained bank records and social media messages as part of the investigation.

Riker responded to the State Police barracks in Horseheads on May 18 and was arrested on a charge of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Police said he was processed without incident and arraigned in Horseheads Town Court before being released on his own recognizance.

Riker is scheduled to return to court June 10.
