Police in Penn Yan Police Department say a 16-year-old student was arrested following an incident earlier this month at Penn Yan Academy involving a school resource officer and another staff member.
According to police, the incident happened May 12 during an attempt to deescalate a verbal altercation between two students.
Investigators said the adolescent offender became involved in a physical altercation with the school resource officer and also punched another staff member during the incident.
The juvenile was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree assault, an E felony, and one count of obstructing governmental administration, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police said the teen was processed at the department before being arraigned in Yates County Youth Part Court.
The adolescent offender was released on their own recognizance and turned over to a guardian, according to police.
