Researchers, environmental advocates, and community members will gather later this month in Geneva for a public symposium focused on the future health and protection of Seneca Lake.
The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association will host its Water Quality Symposium on Thursday, May 28, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Vandervort Room at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Organizers are also offering a virtual attendance option through Zoom.
The event will feature presentations on stormwater drainage research, invasive species and land stewardship efforts, and environmental toxicology and conservation strategies affecting the watershed.
Speakers include Ian Smith, Lydia Martin, and Dr. Roxanne Razavi, who will discuss ongoing research and emerging environmental concerns tied to Seneca Lake and the surrounding region.
Organizers said the symposium is designed to connect scientists, residents, and environmental advocates around the most pressing water quality issues facing the lake. Community members will also have opportunities to ask questions and participate in discussions about long-term conservation efforts.
The event will include free beer tastings from Watershed Brewing, complimentary wine tastings courtesy of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and a raffle for a gift card to Famous Brands in Watkins Glen.
The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association said the symposium is open to anyone interested in protecting the health and future of Seneca Lake, whether they live along the shoreline, visit seasonally, or simply care about water quality in the Finger Lakes.
