Ithaca murder defendant says threats against family led to fatal Elmira Road stabbing

A man accused in a fatal Elmira Road stabbing admitted in court Tuesday that he killed Edward Warren, according to The Ithaca Voice, but said he feared Warren would harm his pregnant fiancée and young daughter.

Autreyu Massaline testified he grabbed a kitchen knife and confronted Warren after hearing threats made during a heated encounter involving racist slurs and intimidation on Elmira Road last summer. Massaline told jurors he believed Warren was reaching for a weapon during the confrontation, though police later testified they found no knife on Warren or nearby.

Prosecutors challenged Massaline over multiple lies he admitted telling investigators after the stabbing. Defense attorneys argued Massaline acted under extreme emotional disturbance after hearing threats against his family.
