Wine lovers and their dogs will once again be able to tour Cayuga Lake wineries together this summer as the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail revives its two-week “Wag Your Tail Along the Trail” event beginning June 1.
The dog-friendly event, organized by the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, runs through June 14 and encourages guests to visit participating wineries at their own pace while supporting local animal shelters.
Event organizers said each ticket includes a custom dog bandana, discounted tastings at participating wineries and access to a self-guided wine trail experience designed specifically for guests traveling with pets. Half of all ticket sale proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters across the region.
“People love experiencing the wine trail with their dogs, and this event has become such a fun way to combine two things people are passionate about — great wine and their pets,” said Katherine Chase, executive director of the wine trail organization.
Unlike many Finger Lakes wine trail events that take place over a single weekend, organizers said the extended two-week format gives visitors more flexibility to travel throughout the region on their own schedule.
Leashed dogs will be allowed inside participating tasting rooms, although wineries serving food may restrict pets from indoor dining areas because of health regulations. Outdoor seating areas will remain available for guests with dogs.
Advance tickets cost $15 and increase to $20 beginning June 1, according to organizers.
Participating wineries include Buttonwood Grove Winery, Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery, Hosmer Winery, Lucas Vineyards, Montezuma Winery, Sheldrake Point Winery, Six Eighty Cellars, Six Mile Creek Vineyard, Swedish Hill Winery and Thirsty Owl Wine Co..
The Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, founded in 1983, is one of the oldest organized wine trails in the country and promotes wineries located throughout the Cayuga Lake American Viticultural Area.
