The New York Yankees dropped their sixth game in the last eight Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards as a potential major injury to Max Fried and another stagnant offensive performance defined the loss. New York fell to 27-17, while Baltimore improved to 20-24 behind a dominant pitching effort from Kyle Bradish and a late offensive surge.
The biggest concern came early with Fried, who struggled to find command before exiting after 3.0 innings with left elbow posterior soreness. The left-hander allowed three earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out two, but was pulled after throwing just 61 pitches. The team later announced he will undergo imaging on Thursday, raising concern about the health of a key arm in the rotation.
Baltimore took control after Fried’s departure, with the Yankees’ bullpen unable to slow things down. Adley Rutschman delivered a two-run homer off Paul Blackburn in the fifth inning, with Spencer Jones narrowly missing a highlight-reel catch that would have kept the ball in play. Blackburn and Ryan Yarbrough combined to allow four total runs as the Orioles steadily pulled away.
Offensively, New York managed just one hit all afternoon. Jazz Chisholm Jr. broke up Bradish’s early no-hit bid with a double in the fifth inning, but the Yankees failed to generate any sustained pressure. Anthony Volpe, back in the starting lineup, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and committed a fielding error in the eighth inning during a rough return to action.
Bradish was in control throughout, holding New York to one hit over 6.0 shutout innings while striking out seven.
The Yankees are off Thursday before opening the Subway Series against the New York Mets on Friday night in Queens. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. with Cam Schlittler set to face Clay Holmes.
