FLCC men’s volleyball caps historic season with NJCAA award haul

The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers men’s volleyball were recognized for a historic breakthrough season after capturing the program’s first-ever NJCAA national championship and finishing 22-4, with multiple players and head coach Frank Clark earning national awards following the championship run.

Sophomore Cole Thomas headlined the postseason honors by being named NJCAA Player of the Year and a First Team All-American after orchestrating one of the most productive offenses in the country. Thomas led the nation with 10.28 assists per set while finishing with 730 assists, adding 69 service aces, 106 digs and 30 blocks while serving as the steadying force behind the Lakers’ attack throughout the season.

Sophomore Ethan Bond also earned First Team All-American recognition after a dominant all-around campaign that included 222 kills, 30 service aces, 44 total blocks and 274.5 points. Bond elevated his play on the biggest stage, earning National Tournament MVP honors during Finger Lakes’ championship run. Freshman Zach Sipos rounded out the honorees with Third Team All-American status after leading the team with 236 kills and 280 points while also contributing 125 digs and 25 blocks in a standout debut season.

Head coach Frank Clark was named NJCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Lakers to a national title in his first season at the helm. Under his leadership, Finger Lakes established itself as one of the premier programs in the country and capped a season that reshaped the program’s trajectory.

The Lakers’ championship season stands as the defining year in program history, setting a new standard for success and national relevance moving forward.
