Two Corning residents were charged with felony drug possession after New York State Police said troopers discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in the town of Bath.
State Police said the stop happened around 2:51 p.m. May 10 after a trooper observed a 2003 Suzuki traveling on County Route 11 with an expired inspection sticker.
According to investigators, the vehicle was stopped near Interstate 86, where the driver and passenger allegedly gave conflicting accounts about their destination.
Police identified the driver as Richard C. Eygabroat, 47, of Corning. Troopers said Eygabroat consented to a search of the vehicle, which led investigators to locate approximately nine grams of suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials and digital scales containing residue consistent with methamphetamine.
Eygabroat was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate, a violation.
The passenger, identified as Julie B. Sweeney, 50, of Corning, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
Both were transported to the Steuben County Jail for centralized arraignment.
