The New York Yankees used a five-run third inning to beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-2 on Tuesday night at Camden Yards to end a four-game losing streak. New York improved to 27-16 after scoring just eight total runs over its previous four games, while Baltimore dropped to 19-24.
Paul Goldschmidt wasted no time setting the tone, launching the first pitch of the game from Tyler Rogers over the wall for an early lead. The Yankees then broke things open in the third inning with five more runs. Cody Bellinger beat out a fielder’s choice to drive in a run, Amed Rosario followed with an infield RBI single and Trent Grisham delivered the biggest swing of the night with a three-run homer that pushed the lead to 6-0.
Will Warren rebounded impressively after a rough outing in his previous start, working around defensive miscues to keep Baltimore off the board early. The right-hander escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third inning after errors and miscommunication nearly unraveled the frame, getting Taylor Ward to fly out before inducing an inning-ending double play from Adley Rutschman.
Warren carried a shutout into the sixth inning before Baltimore finally broke through for two runs. He finished allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings while striking out six. Fernando Cruz stabilized the middle innings and David Bednar closed out the win with a clean ninth inning.
The Yankees conclude their three-game series against the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Max Fried (4-2, 2.91 ERA) is expected to start for New York, while Baltimore has not announced a starter.
